HOLIDAY FOOD DRIVE for FamilyWorks
The Pandemic is still affecting food availability not to mention rising costs at the grocery store. St.Andrew’s parishioners have given generously from their abundance before and we can do it again! Many of our brothers and sisters in need depend on the food bank to put nourishing food on the table for their family. Let’s overflow the Narthex with food donations now through the Holiday season!
When you make a donation of food, neighbors and families gain access to much needed resources. In turn, this can also:
- reduce anxiety from food and resource insecurity,
- improve health and well-being,
- and provide an increased sense of stability.
PLEASE REMEMBER:
Yes:
- Non-perishable, unopened cans and packages of food
- Fresh produce
- Opened food
- Cooked food
- Homemade baked goods or other products, including canned goods from home
- Cans that are rusted or dented
Holiday food is NOT needed! (You MAY donate monetarily directly to FamilyWorks in order to support their yearly ordering and delivering of pies, but that’s it!) The food bank purchases turkey breasts to give as one of the protein options, and they always have produce. What you and I think of as holiday food is great, but we need to be focused on food that provides many meals–not just one. (“I cannot tell you how many cases of pumpkin filling and cranberry sauce we have and struggle to give out.” –Jennifer Rogers)
Focus on these food items for donation:
Condiments: (most food is bland and condiments are costly)
Spices
Hot sauces
Salsa
pickles
Crackers
COFFEE – 1 lb bags, ground
Black and Green tea
Soups – not condensed
Shelf stable non-dairy milk
Cooking oil (smaller bottles – not huge 1 gallon ones)
Canned fruit
Christmas Pageant
Please plan to attend the following rehearsals:
December 19th at 11:30AM in the sanctuary: All cast rehearsal. Costumes will be available again for those unable to attend the first rehearsal.
December 24th: Please plan to arrive between 3:30PM and 3:40PM to put on your costumes and to get ready.
Saturday, December 4, 2021, 9 a.m.–12:30 p.m.

What is #AdventWord?
#AdventWord is a global, online Advent calendar. Each day from the first Sunday of Advent through Christmas Day, #AdventWord offers meditations and images to inspire and connect individuals and a worldwide community of believers to the themes of Advent. In 2021, Advent begins on Sunday, November 28. The written meditations will be provided in English, Spanish, French and in American Sign Language on YouTube. Each morning during Advent, the meditations are distributed: on AdventWord.org, Email, Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.
Around the world, prayers ascend in response to the meditations. People post their reflections on their respective social media pages, tagging AdventWord on the platform. You are invited to participate by posting your own images using the hashtag #AdventWord and the word of the day, for example, #journey. Individuals, congregations, organizations, and institutions can all participate.
From there, AdventWord shares and reposts on each site – amplifying the prayers during this holy season. Find the social feed on our website, or on your favorite social media platform.
Explore the different ways that people respond to the daily words, whether written meditations, drawings, photographs, or poems.

We encourage you to focus on some aspect of SERVICE during this season of Advent. One idea is to engage with a Reverse Advent Calendar as a way to support our parish community or greater Seattle community! Fill your own homemade reverse advent calendar with tasks that can be done each day, such as an item to donate on a given day, a place to go volunteer on a given day, or supporting an organization on a given day. Here is a copy of last year’s example which helps one gather a non-perishable food item each day throughout Advent (If you decide on a reverse advent calendar for donating food like this one, may we suggest substituting some of these example items with the MUCH NEEDED specific items listed above in our Advent Food Drive list above? 😊)
From the “Journeying the Way of Love” curriculum from episcopalchurch.org, use this Advent calendar which offers daily suggestions for engaging in the seven practices that encompass the Way of Love: turn, learn, pray, worship, bless, go, and rest. The calendar can also be used as a standalone resource–keep it at your desk or on your fridge and refer to it every day! Available in English, Spanish, and French.
